Lori McKenna is a folk and country music singer-songwriter who has written hit songs such as "Girl Crush" (performed by Little Big Town) and "Humble and Kind" (performed by Tim McGraw). She also co-wrote the second single off the soundtrack to the 2018 film A Star Is Born, called "Always Remember Us This Way".
In 2017, she won the Grammy Award for Best Country Song at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards for writing "Humble and Kind." Although McKenna has found her biggest commercial success as a songwriter, she has a solo career as a singer-songwriter as well.
She has released many albums as a solo artist, including 2004's Bittertown, 2014's Numbered Doors, 2016's The Bird and the Rifle, and 2018's The Tree. McKenna was born and raised in Stoughton, Massachusetts, where she still lives today.
Her mother died when she was seven years old, a theme often touched on in her music. She met her husband, Gene McKenna, in third grade and married him at age 19. They have five children and have been married for more than 30 years.
McKenna's music is notable for the way it weaves small details together, ultimately creating a profound and wide-reaching portrait of various aspects of life.
