Purple Schulz
Add to FavoritesPurple Schulz, actually Rüdiger Schulz, (*September 25th 1956 in Cologne) is a German pop singer and musician. Purple Schulz had his stage debut on the March 31st, 1973 with the band "D' accord". During the New German Wave Schulz was involved in the band project “Neue Heimat” (new homeland), whose first album “Die Haerte” appeared in 1982.
Since 1978 he has been also member the cover band “Leo Löhr´s Oldie Quartet” that appear sporadic in the greater Cologne area with Oldies of the 1960 and '70's. 1983 Schulz, Josef Piek, the guitarist of “Neue Heimat”, and the percussionist Dieter Hoff as Purple Schulz published the title song “Sehnsucht”, that ended up being the biggest success for the band and for which they received the “Goldene Europa”.
Spring 1985 this song also did well in the hit parade in other German-speaking countries. Numerous TV entrances and tours followed. After releasing three further singles, that all made it into the Top 20 Media Control Charts, Dieter Hoff left the band in 1987.
Since then Schulz and Piek are on tour either with the band or as a duo.
