SANGIT OM, who''s real name is Stefan Petersilge, was born in Germany in 1954. He received his first piano lessons when he was five and also learned to play violin and guitar. He graduated in music as a pianist and composer in 1979.
Searching for his own way of musical expression, he studied modern jazz, toured with several jazz groups and composed music for theaters. Later, he started to travel around the world to learn more about the music of different cultures.
He was especially fascinated by India's musical tradition. There, he learned to play the Indian bamboo flute. Later, he discovered the variety of Greek music, and he is now living part-time on the Island of Crete.
Since 1987, he has created his own mixture of "New Age / World Music'', melting all the different influences from classical music to new age, jazz and world music into his own style. He has released many CDs under the name "SANGIT OM'', three CDs on the Label "NEW SPIRIT'' (EMI/Electrola), and numerous CDs as a producer and as a musician for fellow artists.
He also has his own life performance project, "SANGIT OM MUSIC EXPERIENCE''. SANGIT OM ABOUT HIS MUSIC:"SANGIT OM is a Sanskrit expression. It means: music (sangit) and the mystical sound heard in absolute silence (om).
Both is equally important for me in my life. But as far as music is concerned, it is most important for me, that my music should come from the heart. The style of the music is secondary. If it comes from the heart it will help the listener to open up so it will reach his heart.
With my music I try to convey something, which I cannot express in words.I combine music of different cultures. Music is an universal language, it does not know of political borders. Its a great way to show, that we are all one family on this planet.
After all I can say: I experience a lot of fun, joy and fulfillment making music. Music is my life.''
