There are two bands from the UK called The Lucid Dream. The first formed in 1990 hailing from Gloucester in the West Country. Some would describe their sound as 'rural psychedelia' others simple 'a pop-sike nightmare'! By 1991 had already undetaken a UK tour supporting Echo and the Bunnymen and had the 'Dippy' 12 EP released on the Bunnymen's Euphoric Records produced by the Bunnymen's keyboard player Jake Brockman and legendary guitarist Will Sergeant.
The group were beginning to make a name for themselves especially on the live circuit and building a great reputation. But by 1992 it had all gone to pot after a series of set-backs and not long after the bands last gig in London at The Robey they decided to call it a day in June 1992.
Luckily the band recorded a whole host of eight track demo's (including some released on cassette only label Acid Tapes) and these along with the 'Dippy' EP make up the new release 'Object Of Reality'.
The Lucid Dream were Dave Battersby (vocals), Ant Walker (Guitar), Craig 'Spadge' Sparey (Keyboards) Andrew 'Smurf' Mirfin (Drums) and Andrew Watkins (Bass). Later on in the bands career John Page played live on rhythm guitar.
A retrospective of their work was released in June 2012 in both the US and UK on Elephant Stone Records. The second The Lucid Dream were formed in Carlisle, Cumbria, in 2008. On the back of 2 sold out EP's in 2010, and 3 sold-out 7" single releases ('Love In My Veins' 'Heartbreak Girl' 'Hits Me Like I'm Stoned'), the band have gained acclaim from the likes of NME, Q, Frank Skinner (Absolute Radio), Steve Lamacq (BBC Radio 2 'Listeners Tip of the Week'), and major support from BBC 6 Music (Nemone 'Record of the Weekend', Lauren Laverne, Gideon Coe, Tom Robinson).
Most recently, the band were selected as full UK tour support to A Place To Bury Strangers in May 2012, and followed this up in June 2012, supporting Death In Vegas. This was on the back of supports to Spectrum, Crocodiles, Captain Beefheart's 'The Magic Band', and The Aliens, to name a few.
The band are currently putting the finishing touches to the debut album, set for Spring 2013 release. Label/press/UK bookings/general enquiries: [email protected] European bookings: monica.
