There are two bands with this name:1) The Firebirds are a heavy psych band who made one album in 1969. From all accounts this isn't even a real band. Just a group of studio muscians crammed in a studio to make a quick buck on the wild and untamed youth and their endless hord of disposable income.
But unlike other fly-by-night mob-money exploito-shlock toss-offs, The Firebirds and their alter ego (read: label cash in) 31 Flavors manage to tear a new hole in the delicate fabric of stoned-dead Blue Cheer style acid-guitar nightmare rock.
Burried under an avalanch of toxic-fuzz, the all-fills-all-the-time drums despratly try to dig, nay, beat their way out of this flash-back induced hell. The punchy bass acts as the massive counter-weight, giving force from the back, and the amature-Robert Plant gives this warship its direction.
2) Formed in 1981 and a Rock ‘n' Roll band, The Firebirds are Jim Plummer , Richie Lorriman and Jason Bryant. With three first class Musicians / Vocalists The Firebirds are able to cover the complete spectrum of 1950s' and 1960s' music, from Commercial Rock ‘n' Roll Songs to Rockabilly, Harmonised Doo Wop, Instrumentals, Ballads, and their Own Compositions.
Having backed some of the American Singers of yesteryear including Jerry Lee Lewis, Charlie Feathers, Charlie Gracie, Ray Campi and Sleepy La Beefe to name but a few, the band has also played alongside British artists such as Marti Wilde, Lonnie Donegan and Showaddywaddy.
Following their transition from semi-professional to professional in 1991, The Firebirds have gone from strength to strength. Having been voted ‘Act of the month' by Club Mirror, they have since played alongside household names such as Bob Monkhouse, Tom O'Connor, and Freddie Starr.
During 1992 The Firebirds performed at the official opening of the Euro Disney Theme Park in Paris .The Firebirds have undertaken extensive tours both in Britain and abroad. At home they have had very successful Summer Seasons performing at Holiday Venues, nightclubs and Military Establishments etc.
The foreign tours included Belgium , Germany , Switzerland , Holland , France , Italy , Denmark and Spain , and entertained passengers on two Mediterranean Cruises.Following their sell out tour of Denmark , The Firebirds were asked to top the bill at the Messan Music Festival in the former Yugoslavian capital of Belgrade .
The band was also booked by the Trident Recording Studio's in London to record the sound track for a ‘Learn to Jive Video', which is now being marketed worldwide.Their three latest albums, recorded on the Rockville label, ‘The Firebirds Live' with selected tracks recorded from live performances across the world and…… ‘Rock and Roll Special' recorded with Linda Gail Lewis, the younger sister of the great Jerry Lee Lewis, have further boosted sales figures of The Firebirds CD's, videos and albums throughout the UK, Europe and as far afield as Japan, America, Russia and the Far East.
During May 2000 The Firebirds made their first visit to the USA playing venues in Memphis and Las Vegas . The Firebirds were honoured to be the only non American band to be invited to play the Rockabilly Festival 2002 at the Carl Perkins Civic Centre in Jackson , Tennessee ; this huge event marked the 50 th Birthday of the Sun Record label and the 25 th Anniversary of the death of Elvis.
More recently The Firebirds have played the Paris Music Festival and Corporate functions in both Rome and Denmark . At home the corporate events amongst others saw The Firebirds entertaining guests for the Priory Group and the David Lloyd Leisure Company.
Their latest Albums Dance Girl Dance and Doo Wop Volume One were recorded in their recently built recording studio.
